Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art that descended from swordsmanship called “kenjutsu” and uses bamboo swords called “shinai” and protective armour called “bōgu”. Today, it is widely practiced not only in Japan, but also in many other nations all over the world.
In Japan, swordsmen established schools of “kenjutsu”, and the schools continued for centuries and which formed the basis of kendo practice today. The formal kendo exercises known as “kata” were developed in centuries ago as “kenjutsu” practice for warriors. in a modified form, these are still practiced and studied today.
