Chountei

Chountei is a garden located in the south of Kyoto. This garden is known as the garden of the sound tide and is a wonderful zen garden located behind Kenniji temple. The garden has 3 stones that represents Buddha and two Zen monks, and another stone that is known as a zazen seki, which is a stone used for meditation. The garden has maple trees placed around to allow onlookers to have a beautiful view from each direction.

Kenniniji temple, where the garden is located, is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It was built in 1202 by Eisai who is also known as Yosai, who was a Buddhist monk who brought Zen Buddhism and tea cultivation from China to Japan. It is open daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm every day.

To get to the garden it will take around 20minutes from Kyoto station by bus.
