Kyoto has more than its fair share of pricey designer stores, but there are also few low-cost shops and flea markets where you can pick up a treat or two without trembling over your credit card. Whether you’re on a budget, or just after a cheap thrill, here are few top picks for budget shopping in Kyoto.

1. 3 COINS & SURIKOINZU SHOPS

300 Yen shop chains are conveniently located near the major hubs, stations, and meeting points. Here you can find home interior goods, kitchen or bath utensils, a huge variety of miscellaneous goods, fashion accessories, stationery for everyday use, or a souvenir. Very colorful and packed with products, it’s a fun place to look for the stuff you probably will not need or discover some that you will.

2. SECOND-HAND SHOPS

Affordable option leading to some awesome treasure troves. Newbies or experienced need a keen eye to find a good second-hand bargain. The time-consuming, but potentially rewarding experience starts by knowing where to look and we recommend starting with Harajuku Chicago Kyoto, a wide selection of western clothing at great prices. Three Star Kyoto is also a respected store with low prices and good quality goods.
