Futari-Shizuka Hakuun is a traditional Japanese inn located in Takayama. Its location is a short distance away from tourist sites like Sanmachi Street, the Morning Market, and the historically renowned Old Town. The rooms of the inn based their designs on traditional Japanese style, complete with futon beddings and tatami mat flooring. Their rooms cost between 10,000 to 30,000 JPY per night, including private cypress baths in all of the rooms.
The ryokan also features various onsen facilities like rental private baths that can be enjoyed by families. Beautiful Japanese robes can also be worn during the stay provided by a separate fee. Traditional kaiseki meals are also served in the dining room. Guests are welcome at Futari-Shizuka Hakuun even during the pandemic, provided that they follow precautionary measures implemented by the inn. A free shuttle is provided at the JR Takayama Train Station. The inn can also be reached by bus from the Shirakawa-go terminal.
I stayed here for 1 night, my package included dinner & breakfast.
Food is so good! Their staff are polite and helpful.
The room is clean & spacious. but please understand it is in a traditional Japanese style, facilities & fixtures are old. But overall we still have a comfortable stay.
Although location is a bit far from the Takayama station, but it did give us a quite and nice view from the hotel. There is a private onsen that you could book at the reception. I will recommend couple to book that, and enjoy a private 1-hour session.
Pleasant stay in Takayama
The hotel is on a quiet hill just above the center of Takayama, giving a great view on it and on the mountains around. The Japanese-style room was clean, with shower and bath on the balcony (!), which made for a couple of very lovely evenings watching the sun set from the bath. They also offer non-mixed public onsens (swapping the men and women ones every night), which adds more to the experience. We didn't try their restaurant (not even for breakfast), as there's just so much choice in Takayama when it comes to food. The hotel offers free shuttle to and from the station, which is very convenient when you have heavy luggage and need to be at the station early! A good base for exploring the area, at good value.
The gem in our trip!
We stayed here for two nights during our trip through Japan. This was the first time i stayed in a Ryokan and i loved every second of it. It was such an experience. When we got to the train station in Takayama we got a taxi to the Ryokan. The taxi driver told us that the Ryokan has a lovely atmosphere and view, which got us very excited. It is located up on the hill with an amazing view and a short 10 minute walk to the old center of Takayama. Note this is a little bit of a trek back up the hill. We were greeted very warmly once we arrived and after we had removed our shoes! Our room was perfect with its own bathroom. We stayed in the Japanese style room with fluton. This first night was a little uncomfortable and i could feel the floor slightly, but this was all part of the experience we signed up for so really didn't mind and the next night i slept great. At 6pm on the dot music is played throughout the Ryokan to let you know that dinner is ready, some of the guests wore their Yukata which was a fun experience. Dinners were wonderful, each night we got between 10-14 little dishes to eat, this really was fun. I might not have liked everything but again it was all about the experience and we LOVED it! Would really recommend this place for any travelers wanting to experience something different!
Valued for money and food is totally great!
Location might be a bit far from the town but can walk if you would like to as Takayama is very small town to be explored. They provided the transfer to/from train station free of charge which is very convenience for the guests. Our rooms were ok with all facilities that you can ask for in normal Japanese set up standard. They have onsen for both male and female and also paid private onsen for couple. The food is the best one that we had in this trip for both dinner and breakfast in traditional Japanese way.
Our favourite hotel in Japan!
One of our most memorable stays was here at Futarishizuka Hakuun.
Just up the hill from the centre of Tateyama old town, it provides a peaceful retreat away from the busyness.
Authentic experience and great bathing facilities which can be book privately with views over the town.
Would highly recommend staying here!
