Kai Atami

Kai Atami is a 4-star hot spring ryokan located in a Japanese prefecture on Honshu’s coast known as Shizuoka. Shizuoka is home to several tourist sites, including the famed Mount Fuji. The location where the inn is situated is surrounded by nature and a pristine environment, overlooking the Sagami Bay and Izu-Hanto Peninsula. Guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery and sounds hummed by the breeze and plants during their relaxation.

The rooms of Kai Atami are designed based on the traditional Japanese style complete with tatami mat flooring, abundant space, and large windows. The ryokan has a total of 16 rooms, which cost around 30,000 to 70,000 JPY per night. Visitors can enjoy the stillness and serene essence where they can also hear the sound of ocean waves paired with classic Japanese aesthetic, enhancing the stay with calmness and cultural immersion.
Kai Atami also offers onsen facilities where guests can choose from indoor and outdoor baths, with the communal bath made of cedar, both offering a view of nature. The resort introduces the concept of "Rediscovering Atami" where visitors are offered the night view of the area where fireworks can be seen depending on the occasion. Kai Atami’s lounge blends modern elements with the traditional design of the inn.
A stay at the ryokan would not be complete without the kaiseki, a multi-course dinner that the resort offers. Meals often highlight seafood, combining it with local flavors in the traditional order. Kaiseki is served in-room with dishes based on the season. Atami also lets its guests experience traditional performances from the Geisha where they dance, sing, and play games.
Kai Atami is near market streets specializing in dried fish, fruits, and vegetables. It is also near the MOA Museum that has over a thousand paintings and a Noh theater. The hotel can be reached by car or bus from the Hakone Yumoto Station. Kai Atami is unfortunately closed and is scheduled to open in the year 2022 after its renovation.
