Kayabuki no Sato Yakushi Onsen Hatago

Yakushi Onsen Hatago is a traditional Japanese inn located in Shima Onsen, tucked away in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture. Situated in an old-style rustic village, the ryokan consists of numerous folk-style cottages within its 23,000 square meter property, almost resembling a theme park.

It has 27 rooms featuring age-old furniture and antiques that date as far back as the Edo Period (1603-1868). Each room is fitted with tatami mat flooring and has a living room area with a fireplace or irori-noma, and a window overlooks the thatched-roof village or the river. Some of the bigger rooms will have their own open-air baths. One night’s stay can range from 20,000 to 75,000 JPY.
Yakushi Onsen Hatago provides multiple exhibits and displays around the property, showing off its rich history which guests are free to explore. Some of the buildings have been refurbished such as the Kurado which became a traditional Japanese sweets shop, Honjin which acts as the lounge and front desk of the establishment, the Kobayashi-ke which is used as a dining area that features irori-style cuisine. Lastly, there’s the Seseragi-kan which houses the hot-spring baths with public and private hot spring baths as well as open-air baths, as well as some guest rooms.
Yakushi Onsen Hatago can be accessed by taking the JR Limited Express from Ueno Station, Tokyo. A free pick-up service is provided from JR Nakanojo Station. The establishment is operating normally with safety measures in place and limited acceptance to prevent the spread of infection.
