Gokuraku-jodo Garden Gokuraku-jodo Garden, 周友慈

Gokuraku-jodo Garden is a garden located in the center of Osaka. It is located in Shitennoji Temple, one of the oldest temples in Osaka. Despite its central location, it is a hidden gem that many do not get a chance to see but if you go to Osaka you must not miss the chance.

The temple where the garden is located was first built in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who is credited with greatly spreading Buddhism throughout Japan. Although the garden was first built in 593, it has been burnt down several times and rebuilt several times, but each time it has been rebuilt it copied the architecture of Prince Shotoku. Which means you can still see the temple and garden as it was originally envisioned. From April to September it is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and from October to March it is open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Also on the 21st of every month, it is open until 5 pm, and it can have unexpected closures so make sure to check before you go whether it is open or closed. It takes around 25minutes from Osaka station by train to get to this garden.
