Fushimi Inari Shrine walking tour

This is a walking tour that departs from the Fushimi Inari branch of Maikoya that is located right next to the entrance of Fushimi Inari Shrine. We are the only organization that provides guided walking tours in Fushmi Inari on a daily basis.

• The tour is about 1 hour. It departs from our tea ceremony venue in Fushimi Inari and returns back to the same spot.
• Your tour guide is a government licensed tour guide who speaks perfect English.
• The tour includes brief information about the shinto religion, and history of Japan, meanings and symbols in the Fushimi inari Taisha, the  significance of the area, famous spots at the shrine, the walk around the main gate and the go-honden shrine, explanations of the trails heading up to the top, and the way back to the train stations. This is a perfect value tour that covers so much in 1 hour.  After the tour you can enjoy the food stalls , take photos under the picturesque 1000-gates or hike to the top.

PS: Please note that this tour does not take you all the way up to the summit. If you are interested in hiking to the top, we are more than happy to arrange a private tour guide for you for an additional 25,000 yen.

Fushimi Inari Shrine is named as the most popular tourists’ destinations in Japan because of its striking view of 10,000 torii gates. It is the head shrine of 40,000 inari shrines in Japan. Inari Shrines are Shinto shrines worshipping for good harvest for farming products, particularly rice, Japan’s staple food. As Japan became a more industrialized nation, many merchants came here to wish for the success of their business. Nowadays people come here to wish for everything from passing exams, the easy delivery of babies, the success of losing weight and the world peace. It was originally established by Hata Family in 711, who originally came from Korean peninsula. 
Japan lived with much natural disaster throughout its history, and Japanese both feared and respected nature. People also believed we go back to nature whenwe die. The whole Mt.Inari behind is believed to be the deity and foxes are messengers of gods at Inari Shrines. On New Year’s Day, 2.5 million people come here to wish for the new year’s health and fortune.
It takes about two hours to walk the whole 4km of torii gates all around Mt. Inari.  Fushimi Inari is an easy access from Kyoto Station on JR Line and only a few minutes’ walk from Fushimi Inari Station on Keihan Line.
