Wa-no-Sato

Wa-no-Sato is a centuries-old traditional Japanese inn that invites its guests to travel back in time.

In the early 90s, the ryokan was moved to a different location in Gifu. Wa-no-Sato, complete and meticulously renovated, is now known for its quality service, scrumptious cuisine, and calm surroundings. With the river as its neighbor, guests can hear the rich sound of nature in the woods of the mountainside.

The inn has a main building that offers guest rooms inspired by the aesthetic of the gassho-zukuri style, known as a part of architecture known as the Minka style. It features angled roofs with the purpose to lessen snowfall staying on top of the inn. The ryokan provides ventilation, especially when there is a fire present. The purpose of the fire is to cook, heat, and other uses that might be beneficial to responsible guests.
Other rooms of Wa-no-Sato feature traditional Japanese design complete with tatami mat flooring, low tables, and screen doors. The ryokan has a total of 8 rooms, which cost around 20,000 to 65,000 JPY per night, including cypress baths that flow with aroma and some rooms featuring a terrace that allows guests to appreciate the surroundings of the inn. Guests can also try communal baths made of wooden material.

Kaiseki of the inn focuses its dish on local ingredients. Wa-no-Sato shows off its meals through its appetizing presentation and porcelain dishes that accents the tone of the ryokan.

Though there may not be many restaurants near the inn, guests can still travel to the Shirakawa-go Village, which is renowned to be a part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Guests can also view the rice fields and thatched-roof houses that can make one feel like he or she is traveling back in time.
