Visiting professor Japan
First, a Japanese professor in the corresponding university nominates a foreign scholar, fills out a form and then submits it to his/her research centre in the university. Once approved by the university, the nominated scholar can soon arrive in Japan, gets his/her own desk and stays in Japan from 1 month to 12 months, depending on the budget.
The following visiting scholar positions are currently available:
Kyoto University has the Japan visiting scholar program in the following areas: Visiting Research Scholars; Guest Scholars; Guest Research Associate; Special Researchers; and Short-term International Student. Center for Southeast Asian Studies in Kyoto University has accommodated more than 300 visiting scholars in Japan since 1975. Positions for scholars visiting CSEAS are divided into five categories: Visiting Research Scholars; Guest Scholars; Guest Research Associate; Special Researchers; and Short-term International Student. Keio University Media Department invites visiting scholars from all around the world throughout the year. Institute of Social and Economic Research in Osaka University, Japan offers Visiting Research Scholars Program for scholars who holds a position at least equivalent to Assistant Professor at the applicant’s home institution. Kansai Gaidai University Asian studies program has the Japan visiting scholar program in research areas related to Japan or Asia. Waseda University has numerous visiting scholar programs for international scholars to apply:- JSPS Invitation Fellowship Programs for Research in Japan (Long term and Short-term) summer program, strategic program, standard program and pathway to university positions in Japan program

- Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship Program [Scholars・Researchers] Scholars whose research is related substantially to Japan in the humanities and social sciences, including comparative research, are eligible.
