  • Starting time: Your reservation time is the start of kimono dressing. The tea ceremony usually begins about 30 minutes later, once the group is dressed.
  • Duration & rental: Allow approximately 90 minutes for dressing and the tea ceremony experience. Kimono rental is available until 6:00 PM that day; the time available for sightseeing depends on your booked session.
  • Age requirement: Children under 7 cannot join this experience.

Can I choose my kimono and wear it outside after the ceremony?

Yes. Choose your kimono from the available selection on arrival, and our staff will help you dress. After the ceremony, you may explore the surrounding area in kimono. Your rental ends at 6:00 PM on the same day, so please plan your return accordingly. A later session leaves less time for sightseeing.

How long does it take, and when does the tea ceremony start?

Allow approximately 90 minutes, including kimono dressing and the tea ceremony experience. Your reserved time is the start of dressing; the ceremony usually begins about 30 minutes later, once everyone is dressed. Any sightseeing afterwards is separate from this approximate 90-minute experience.

Is the tea ceremony conducted in English?

Yes. An English-speaking host explains the ceremony step by step. Beginners are welcome, and you do not need to speak Japanese. Interpretation by guests or third-party interpreters is not permitted during this group session. Please contact us in advance if you need language support.

Is this a private or shared tea ceremony?

This is a group experience shared with other guests. If you prefer a private session, please book the private tea ceremony at Gion Kiyomizu.

Can children join?

This experience is for guests aged 7 and up. Children under 7 cannot join this plan.

Do I have to sit in seiza on the floor?

No. You do not need to remain in seiza if it is uncomfortable. Chairs may be available on request. Please mention seating needs when booking and contact us in advance if you require special assistance.
