Fujiya Hotel

Fujiya Hotel, which is also referred to as the Kikkaso Inn Hakone, is a hotel with over more than 140 years of history. It is located in a district called Ashigarashimo in the Kanagawa Prefecture. The district is a part of Hakone, which is in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Hakone is known for being a mountainous town and is known for being a rich source of hot spring accommodations.

Built in the 1890s, the hotel was a summer cottage for the emperor and empress of the Imperial Family. Its history started when it served as a getaway for royal icons and popular people. Notable guests were actors, literary legends, and singers. Today, it is known as one of Japan’s traditional meets Western-style accommodations. Though it has incorporated modern amenities, the building still echoes its story from the past.


Outside of the ryokan is a pond where carps roam freely, with its beauty highlighted by a charming bridge. The inn maintains the design of its rooms with the traditional Japanese style. It has a total of three rooms that cost between 30,000 to 50,000 JPY that offer a sense of tranquility and calm. Guests can also visit the garden beaming with historical tales, which the inn prides in.
The site is near Mt. Fuji and offers natural hot spring baths for maximum relaxation. The location of Kikkaso Inn Hakone can be reached by train coming from Shinjuku station. The ryokan has implemented precautionary measures due to the coronavirus, like the change of hours for other of their facilities.
