Gion Hatanaka is a traditional Japanese inn located in Higashiyama. The inn offers guests facilities which they can enjoy like their featured onsen.
The location of the ryokan is near to tourist sites where travelers can visit during their stay and make the most of their cultural experience. It has a garden that blends well with its interior, making the ryokan a welcoming accommodation that is open to both locals and foreign neighbors.
The ryokan has complete amenities providing guests spacious areas. Gion Hatanaka has a total of 23 rooms, which cost between 35,000 to 80,000 JPY per night, including a cypress bathtub.

With the location near the geisha district, guests can also anticipate a maiko evening where they can play and spend quality time with their loved ones. To add more fun to the geisha entertainment, the friendly staff of the ryokan will help visitors wear a yukata to complete their cultural immersion. It is where guests can witness traditional dances from the maiko and learn more about samurais and their sword dances.

We had the keseki dinner with maikos (ladies training to become geishas) here and it was an unique experience that I would recommend to everyone visiting Japan. The dinner was really beautiful and very high quality, though not exactly suitable for our taste as a lot of the food were cold dishes and yuzu-citrusy. The Maiko was really accommodating and played games with us during the dinner, and we got to hear her life stories on how she decided to become a maiko. We also stayed here in a large suite, the rooms were way too large for the two of us (probably can sleep a large family of 6-8). The staff were extremely polite and nice (even bowed to us the whole time while we were leaving). Perfect location in the middle of Kyoto too.
We were extremely fortunate and lucky to stay here for a few nights as our base to explore Kyoto and Nara. The ryokan is beautiful and the staff here are so attentive and really take pride in their jobs. The breakfast and dinner was absolutely superb, they even accommodated meal changes due to diet. Location is so close to Gion and transport but overall such a wonderful pleasant experience and would really recommend a stay here if you can.
An excellent ryokan with very helpful and friendly staff. The public bath was enjoyable and clean, while all amenities are provided. The food is served over multiple courses and it s ever so tasty while being filling at the same time! only compliments!
