Outstanding room and service
My wife and I came down for a night away from Tokyo and loved this place. Excellent service, great location up on the hill an easy walk from town but with a view overlooking Atami and the ocean. Our room was massive and had two en suite baths, one inside and one out. Very comfortable and cozy, and the rooftop onsen for all guests was also great. I'd recommend springing for one of the better rooms to get a good view, and don't plan on leaving the hotel.

An unforgettable experience
Our stay at Shin Kadoya was an unexpected and wholly enjoyable experience. Our "double" room was actually a huge tatami room open on two sides with sliding glass windows/doors opening onto a shaded porch overlooking a private garden with a cherry tree in full bloom. We were extremely fortunate to be visiting during a period of near-perfect weather so we could open the glass doors wide for a perfect indoor/outdoor experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. But the truly unique feature of this ryokan is the outdoor onsen on the rooftop, where you can enjoy your hot bath while gazing on a panorama of the very beautiful coastline of Atami. The attached pictures provide a sample of what awaits you here.

Harbor Views; Quiet Hillside Onsen
I fell in love with several things at this wonderful onsen. First, I loved the harbor view from the veranda of our very large set of tatami rooms. I was just floored at how beautiful the rooms were, how comfy the futons were, and how tasty the breakfast was. But then, i just loved, loved, loved the view of the sunrise from the top floor open-air onsen. Wow. This onsen is high on the hill. Loved hearing the crickets at night and the birds in the morning. I would say the only thing that really marred the view from the open-air bath was a rather large and unnecessary sign on top of a hotel which was down the hill from our onsen. Atami really needed some building code restrictions. But it sure was fun watching the Shinkansen go by further up the hill at night and in the morning. Nothing marred the view from our room. There were so many special details throughout the room. The people at the hotel were so nice. I especially loved the charcoal black hinoki body soap, shampoo and conditioner in the first floor public bathing area. The bath down there was very hot. All in all, it was a special experience!

Best place to go get the full onsen experience.
This was a fantastic place to go through the full onsen experience. If we go back to Japan, we will definitely stay here again. Tomomi-san was a great English-speaker manager who patiently introduced us to the beauty of her onsen and the inn. Likewise, Eiko-san was a warm elegant lady, who guided us through the Japanese rituals of dinner, dancing and culture. She seemed to be from other time. We couldn't have had better hosts than them. The food was unbelievable good. The view to the sea from the onsen was astonishing. And the space of the rooms was more of what we were expecting. This was a dream stay. We highly recommend anyone looking at this option to definitely book it.

For a spiritual experience
What a delightful oasis this Japanes inn proved to be. The staff are so attentive and the rooms are close to perfect. Only when we went to another ryokan did we truly appreciate this one. High on the mountainside, the peace and tranquility of the setting enhance the experience. The hot spring that feeds the public baths has natural minerals. The food is superb. Although little English is spoken, we were still able to communicate. The only negative is that parts if the building structure are beginning to show their age and need some renovation. Expensive? Yes, but worth every Yen.
