Kenniniji temple where the garden is located is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It was built in 1202 by Eisai who is also known as Yosai, who was a Buddhist monk who brought Zen Buddhism and tea cultivation from china to Japan. It is open daily from 10am to 4:30pm every day.

To get to the  garden it will take around 20minutes from Kyoto station by bus.
