The first thing that comes to mind in Kyoto in spring is the Gion weeping cherry tree at Maruyama Park.  It is a symbol of Kyoto’s spring and makes the covers of all the travel magazines.

Maruyama Park is located in Higashiyama, Kyoto.  It is on the east side of the Yasaka Shrine and on the south side of Chion-in Temple.  It is a part of a popular walking course from Kiyomizu-dera Temple to Yasaka Shrine and Chion-in Temple.

In spring, weeping cherry trees and some other species of cherry trees inside the park are in full bloom.  For this reason, please note that the park is packed with tourists and local people having a picnic under the pink blossoms.
