Shosei-en Garden

Shosei-en Garden, 中西禎之

Shosei-en is a garden located in the center of Kyoto. This garden is the detached garden and property of Higashi Honganji Temple. It is believed to have been created in 1641, although some debate it is even older than that, but no matter what you believe the current gardener was built in the 19th century after it was burned down in two fires in 1858, and 1864.

This Garden has many beautiful sights such as the garden pond Ingetsu-chi, the covered bridge Kaitoro, Minamoto no Toru Memorial Tower, the plum orchard sob-en, and many more just waiting for you to see. The Garden has different hours from March to October and from November to February. From March to October it is open Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. From November to February it is open Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. From Kyoto station, it is only a 12-minute walk to arrive at the station.
